Puglia is not as well known as Tuscany, but recently tourist from the United States and England gave it this name, because it has the same charm and still is so unknown that the tourist will feel like opening a treasure chest. In addition, Puglia has a special flavour of a Mediterranean area, that you can feel in typical food, architecture and people's welcoming attitude. Alberobello is the unique capital of the Trulli (traditional dwellings with conic roof made by limestone put together without mortar) and Unesco world heritage site since 1996 thanks to the artistic and historical heritage present here. Walking through the neighbourhoods of Aia Piccola and Rione Monti, we will admire the picturesque cone shaped buildings and walk through the incredible alleyways of this fairy-tale town. Visit to the Siamese Trulli and the Master Trullo, the latter was built around 1700 and is the only dwelling with more than one floor. Arrival at the heart of the historic centre of Alberobello and visit to the Museum of the Territory in a trullo complex. Castel del Monte is an amazing place. It is a spectacular octagonal XIV century castle built by Frederick II , that is Unesco world Heritage site since 1996. The fascinating castle is in a spectacular position dominating one of the highest hills of the Western Murgia. |
