Lecce is renowned for its Baroque architectural style and its craftsmen who design, make and decorate “papier-machè” objects; other beautiful places to visit are the Alimini Lakes, Santa Cesarea, Castro, and Otranto with its Cathedral which contains a mosaic floor representing the tree of life and that dates back to the early 12th century.

Nicknamed ‘the Baroque Florence’, Lecce boasts a profusion of incredibly decorative buildings, principally relating to the period from the 16C to the C18, when it was embellished with Renaissance, Rococo and Baroque monuments. Our walking tour will take in the Piazza del Duomo, completely enclosed by Baroque buildings, and one of the most remarkable squares in southern Italy.
There is an interesting collection of paintings in the Museo Pinacoteca Comunale, including a polyptych by Antonio Vivarini dating back to the first half of the 15C.

Galatina
An important Greek colony in the Middle Ages, it is now a chief wine centre. The 14C church of Santa Caterina di Alessandria is decorated with a marvellous cycle of frescoes by several 15C artists.
